FSR: It looks like Ken was in his usual time pressure.
Nov-18-09  walker: Do you have anything personal against Eric Schiller? BTW...Have you met Winter?

FSR: I consider Schiller a hack writer; as you surely know, I am not alone in that opinion. In addition, I find Winter's evidence that Schiller is a plagiarist persuasive. Finally, I am offended by Schiller's baseless attacks on Winter and Wikipedia. I have not met Winter, although he has published some items from me: http://bit.ly/4dtNbd

FSR: One instance where Winter cited me, as it happens, is in pointing out a mate in one that Schiller bizarrely overlooked in published analysis. See Chess Note 6281 - http://bit.ly/3AkRf6 In one of his books, Schiller correctly observed that William Watson, annotating a game in Chess Informant, analyzed a move, 22...Qc5, overlooking that it would allow 23.Re8 double check and mate. Schiller instead recommended 22...Qc7 - but overlooked that that move also allows 23.Re8 double check and mate. I have no idea how anyone could make such a mistake. But unlike Schiller I don't have a Ph.D. (only a J.D.) so I guess I should just shut up.
Nov-19-09  TheFocus: I totally agree with <FSR> about Schiller.

I have also contributed some things to Winter's Chess Notes that have been published, and can say that Winter has always been very helpful to me, and very polite and cordial in our correspondences. He autographed several books for me that I ordered from him.

As for anyone meeting him: it is understood that Edward Winter is a recluse.
