Jan-15-06  gmgomes: I thought Jobava had a perpetual earlier. Well done Giovanni!
Jan-15-06  sucaba: <gmgomes>:<I thought Jobava had a perpetual earlier.> To me it is unclear to which particular move you refer, or if you once thought that there would be a perpetual, but have changed your mind now.

Without succes I tried to help Black with 21. _ ♕xg2 22. ♖e1 ♖xe1+ 23. ♗xe1 ♘c5 24. ♖a3 and now 24. _ ♕e4 25. ♕e3 ♕b1+ 26. ♕c1 ♕f5 27. ♖e3 where White seems to be able to activate the pieces, or 24. _ ♘d3 25. ♕f6 ♕xh3 26. ♕d8+ ♔f7 27. ♕d5+ ♕e6 28. ♕xe6+ ♔xe6 29. b3 with an endgame similar to the game.

Jan-15-06  SimonBrazil: <sucaba>: what about 34...c3+ ?
Jan-15-06  gmgomes: <sucaba> You are right. All that black could do at that point was done - I am not sure if endgame was played precisely.

<Simon> Também estranhei 34... c3+ não vi motivo par dar este peão tão facilmente.

Jan-16-06  sucaba: <34. _ c3+>:
Unfourtunately I can't read and write Portugese, but I think <gmgomes> said that 34. _ c3+ is refuted with relative ease(?) : 35. ♔d1 and now 35. _ c2+ 36. ♔c1 or 35. _ ♕d3+ 36. ♔c1 ♕f1+ 37. ♔c2 ♕e2+ 38. ♔b1 ♕f1+ 39. ♗c1 c2+ 40. ♔a2 .

The opening looks playable with 11. _ ♘xd5 12. ♘c4 ♘b4 13. ♘bxd6 ♖e6 =.

Jan-16-06  gmgomes: <sucaba> I misundertood with move 41.c3, which I could not understand. Your comments are right about 34. c3+. Thanks again.
Jan-16-06  JBF: gmgomes

I think 41...c3 is not that bad... (41...Be6 looses the a pawn and 41...Ba6 allows the c pawn to be taken with the rook, both options make easy to get a passed a pawn).

Giovanni played a nice game and deciding to go for a win was a sign of his good shape! I hope he continues that way to play in A group 2007 :-)
