Mar-12-07  Dres1: this game should not be in the database.

Benzol: I do find it amazing that player rated between 1700-1800 wasn't able to win this ending. However, <Dres1> why do you want to remove data from a database?

tpstar: Surely all games have teaching value. =)

This endgame went from drawn to worse with 49. fxg5? weakening the Pawns beyond repair; 49. hxg5 and they could call the draw right then. One obvious improvement for Black is 59 ... g6 followed by 60 ... Kxg5 and Black is 3 Pawns up. After 71. Kf3, the quick win is 71 ... Rd3+! 72. Rxd3 e4+ 73. Ke3 exd3 74. Kxd3 Kg5 (74 ... Ke5? 75. Ke3 draws) 75. Ke3 Kg4 with a won K&P endgame.

Mar-16-07  Dres1: maybe im hallucinating but i read somewhere that at least one of the players must be a master for a game to be in this site. I think these type games water down the quality of the database.. makes things such as the opening explorer less reliable.

tpstar: The Fork Trick idea (71 ... Rd3+! 72. Rxd3 e4+) definitely shortens the winning process. I reviewed this endgame with my students who each fell into something like this:

where 1. Rxf5+! draws.
