Jonathan Sarfati: Quinteros had outplayed Torre for most of this game. I guess he must have thought 35.Qxc5 was check, as per the score, but it wasn't. 35 ... Qe7 or 35 ...Qf7 would have won hands down. IIRC I was the 13yo demo board operator for this game and it was hard to keep up with the time trouble. Quinteros won the tourney convincingly after this loss, and was a popular winner.

Fusilli: <JS> Actually, the blunder is 36...Rb1. With 36...Nf3+ and 37...Qf7, black is still winning.

I just ran the game by Stockfish and, interestingly, against 35.Qxc5:

...the computer says 35...Nf3+ leads to mate in 9 if 36.Kh1 Rxf2 and to mate in 7 if 36.Kg2 Rxf2+ 37.Kxg2 Rb2+ 38.Be2 Rxe2+ etc.
