Nov-19-06  xeneizexxx: Please, could someone explain 24...Qa1 to me? And why white didn't play 25.Qxa1?

Thanks.

Nov-19-06  Albertan: Hi xeneizexxx I checked the moves of this game with my version of it from The Week in chess and TWIC version also gives the move 24...Qa1. As you realized already the move 24...Qa1?? is absurd and simply loses the queen. The only explanation for this is that the game score is wrong. Quite probably Cramling played the move 24...Qe1 in that position not 24...Qa1.
Nov-19-06  Albertan: xeneizexxx I just downloaded the moves of this game from the official tournament website: http://www.feda.org/ceclub/honor2/p... and the game score for the game from the website also has the crazy move 24...Qa1 so I guess we will never know the actual correct moves of this game. <:(

tamar: One guess is that Ponomariov played 22...Ra8 instead of 22...Rd8

then if as in the game 23 h3 Qc3 24 Rc2

24...Qa1 is the strongest move on the board.

But if so then there is another transcription error at move 28.

Phony Benoni: If Black did play 22...Ra8, then 28...Ra1 is possible (and would make sense compared with 28...Ra8). If that is true, though, 30...Rb1 and 33...Rb2 would have to be substituted as well.

That's a lot of changes, but they do seem to make sense.
