Kibitzer's Corner
Mar-20-15  ughaibu: A nice and unusual rook sacrifice to finish this, but I don't understand why black gave up the knight with 38...Qd6(?)

perfidious: Neat combinative idea in a superficially dry ending; 46....Kxg6 loses to 47.Rg8+ Kh6 48.Be3+ Kh5 49.g4+ fxg4 50.hxg4+ and mate next move.
Oct-03-22  syracrophy: 46.♖xg6+!!, nice and unusual as <ughaibu> said. With few pieces on an open board White has a mating net at display for this nice jolt.

perfidious: Before posting the first time, I reviewed the position before White's 46th, cos I believed the score might well have had an error. A minute or two of reflexion enabled me to cobble together the finish.
Oct-03-22  syracrophy: <perfidious> Me too! I blinked a couple times: "Rxg6+!? What?". Yeah, remarkable the power of a few pieces on those open lines. Efficiency at the highest.

If not for the mating net, Black expects to win back the bishop with ...b2.

If White doesn't find 46. Rxg6+, it's hard to close the net. On 46. Rg8 (also threatening a king hunt with 47. Be3+), Black has 46...f4.

Dionysius1: yep <syracrophy> there are some lovely economic winning variations after 46...♔xg6 ♖g8+ if White doesn't play 47.Kf7.

Heard melodies are sweet but... Keats would've been proud.
