Benzol: 15.♕d3?? This was a correspondence game? Was it fixed or something? Unbelievable!

  perfidious: <Benzol> Here's one of mine posted on chesslive.de from an ICCF email master norm event in 1998, though incorrectly attributed to another event I played at the time: (White was 2430, I about 2350) E Soares de Sa-A Shaw 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 e6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 Nc6 5.Nc3 a6 6.Nxc6 bxc6 7.Bd3 d5 8.0-0 Nf6 9.Re1 Bb7 10.Bg5 Be7 11.e5 Nd7 12.Bxe7 Qxe7 13.Qg4 0-0 14.Re3 f5 15.Rae1 (my jaw dropped) fxg4 0:1

PS Despite this gift, I didn't make the IM norm.

Benzol: <perfidious> That's incredible. How long did your opponent have to consider his move?

Btw are any of your other games in the DB?

Sep-10-08  whiteshark: <Benzol <...Was it fixed or something? >>

The most likely explanation is that White had the black Queen on c5 instead of a Knight. Maybe wrong move notation (10...Qxc5 for 10...Nxc5).

perfidious: <Benzol> In the game above, he took a day or two, no more than that.

In this DB, I have about a dozen games as Alan Shaw, and on chesslive.de, over a hundred, all from 1981-2001.

BTW, back in the late 1990s, when I was playing correspondence, I picked up the latest copy of Chess Mail, to see a memorial event with my name on it! This particular Alan Shaw was a Scottish player, though better known as an organiser.
