Kibitzer's Corner
Jan-24-07  Caissanist: I guess Radjabov's playing for second place now.
Jan-25-07  sergeidave: Why didn't Radjabov continue? Isn't this position somehow better for White? Isn't there still a possibility to keep the iniciative and keep attacking while black rooks are still out of the game?
Jan-25-07  Caissanist: Well, white's a pawn down and if he works on getting his pawn back then black completes his development and the game would be a tedious opposite-color-bishops draw. If he tries to play for the initiative instead of then he takes a big risk of losing.

Radjabov's now a point back of Topalov and half a point ahead of four other players, including Svidler. It's probably prudent for him to play for draws now, unfortunately.

Jan-25-07  ivoivanov: I do not agree!!!He should at least try.I think even a pawn less for the MOMENT, the whites have the initiative and should try playing further.
Jan-25-07  euripides: With one minor transposition, this game followed Kramnik vs Svidler, 2005. Chessbase reports that there is a big improvement for Svidler on move 21 of that game, which he lost.

<percyblakeney> on another page reported that Radjabov thought for 40 minutes before offering the draw. It's possible that he hadn't planned to play into this variation and didn't like what he saw when he got there. Still a bit disappointing.
