Feb-01-07  BadTemper: First time seeing this opening, can anyone tell me about it?
Feb-01-07  Landman: Must've been some kind of time pressure at the end there - 38.Qxf7+ first is even stronger.
Feb-01-07  BishopofBlunder: Why is the gambit considered "declined" when black eventually takes the c pawn? Is it because the pawn is protected then?

Opening names and ECO codes were actually developed to throw off players from learning too much theory...

I believe it's only considered accepted when it happens right away: 1. d4 d5 2. c4 dxc4. Any delay and it's 'declined' (not a delayed-accepted variation).

Note that unless white wants it to be, there's never really a gambit involved anyway: 1. d4 d5 2. c4 dxc4 3. Qa4+ and 4. Qxc4.

  Honza Cervenka: <Landman: Must've been some kind of time pressure at the end there - 38.Qxf7+ first is even stronger.> I guess that white was well aware of that possibility but he preferred rather 38.Qxb7 with Qxf7+ still threatening. Of course, 38...f5 (what else?) 39.Qf7+ Kh8 40.Qe8+ Kh7 41.Qg6+ Kh8 (41...Kg8 42.Qxe6+ Kh8 43.Qc8+ Kh7 44.Qxf5+ Kg8 45.Qf7+ Kh8 46.Qf8+ Kh7 47.Bxe4+ g6 48.Bxg6#) 42.Nf7+ Kg8 43.Nxh6+ Kh8 44.Nf7+ Kg8 45.Qxe6 etc. is a good reason to resign immediately after 38.Qxb7 if the fact that white is a piece up is not sufficient for it.:-)
Feb-02-07  BishopofBlunder: Thanks, <gangstaman>. I guess I was confused because some openings don't change names just because of transposition of moves. Apparently, a gambit (even if it's not really one) is different.
Jun-09-15  nick41chess: <Bad Temper>, John is a fan of this modern move against the triangle setup for black. He prefers this over mainline stuff.
