Kibitzer's Corner
Mar-06-08  MaltaCross: This is just one of those games with a dum ending. Why did White surrunder the game ?!
Mar-06-08  Gilmoy: Black just stole a piece, and White's Q is attacked.

[A] If White's Q retreats, he's down a piece + pawn.

[B] 24.Qxe7? Nxe7 with <mutual threat> to White's hanging Bd5, and Black keeps the piece.

[C] 24.Bxc6 dxe3 with a parallel-diagonals threat, e.g. 25.fxe3?? Bxe3+ 26.Bxe3 Qxe3+ 27.Kh1 Rxc6 <untouchable due to Be4+> still a piece up.

[C1] 25.Bxe3 Bxe3 26.Qxe7 Bxf2+ 27.(K,R)xf2 Rxe7 leaves Black up two pawns, and White still has to save its B. Black has two long-term plans: pushing the a-pawn, and Bh3 with back-rank mate threats.

Jun-11-08  MaltaCross: <Gilmoy> Yes, that's more understandable now. Thanks.
