Kibitzer's Corner
Jun-27-07  kingsindian2006: after white castle, very hard to see a long term plan against black.. great struggle.. no wonder they invite this guy to the big tourneys.. i was starting to question who this guy was..
Jun-27-07  achieve: <no wonder they invite this guy to the big tourneys..> I agree, van Wely's style of play is very attractive and he gets a fair amount of stick for being invited into so many 'big' tournaments, but IMO he proves them wrong by playing these kind of games regularly.
Jun-27-07  Marvol: I agree, and not just because he's a compatriot of mine.

I think most chess fans prefer to see players like him who lose 5 games spectacularly and then win 2 or 3 equally spectacularly, instead of what Svidler is doing now for instance. He usually does this at Corus, too.

Funny how most people seem to only remember his losses because he does get a lot of criticism whenever he's invited, and he is usually seen as a punching bag for the bigshots. Yeah right, ask Shirov or Jakovenko.

Jun-27-07  whiteshark: <56... f5 ??> was a terrible blunder in a drawish looking endgame.<56... Rb8> was the only playable move. I'm wondering why black didn't move the obvious.
Jun-27-07  djmercury: Time trouble I guess, Eljanov had around 1 minute on the clock when he made that move, probably he overlooked 58. Nd5 that stopped any chance of black to push his own pawns to promotion.
