Jul-11-07  jhoro: boo for Bu... and for Short too
Jul-12-07  acirce: There is a rule in this tournament prohibiting draws before move 30. Bu and Short got "yellow cards" for this. There have been other examples too. It's said the rule was possibly not made clear enough to the players beforehand.
Jul-13-07  Peter Johnson Ng: who say ??
Jul-13-07  jhoro: thanks for the info <acirce>! sounds interesting.

they only had exchanged a piece and a pawn before calling it a day. on the other hand CG shows 10...a6 as novelty, so maybe they put a bit of effort into it

Jul-15-07  arunjangity: <yellow> a lot of players used their yellow card! perhaps the way the players see the rule, they are allowed to agree to one pre-30 draw in the tourney without any real penalty.
Jul-15-07  acirce: I think Tiviakov vs Yermolinsky, 2007 is the one they said they allowed for "humanitarian reasons" ( http://cocycc.pbwiki.com/results ).

keypusher: <acirce> What were the humanitarian reasons?
Jul-15-07  tacite: <keypusher: <acirce> What were the humanitarian reasons?> : Lots of chess players are not in good physical shape (if not in terrible shape). So probably, the aggravation due to stress during a tournament might sometime cause serious health problems (Kramnik vs Topalov?) and force the referee to accept early draws due to that "humanitarian reasons". But then again, it's only a guess of what might be those "humanitarian reasons".
Jan-22-08  jonnymalk: qgd tartakower def always leads to draw nowadays. nigel short has played this a thousand times so it would easy for him to defend against.
