Jul-08-09  Ulhumbrus: By now White may have nothing better than to repeat moves
Jul-08-09  mig55: draw?
Jul-08-09  Appaz: <<firebyrd> Not necessarily a formal draw offer> You might be right, it's not clear from the notes. Then it must be the Rxb3 drawing line

tamar: Shouldn't the arbiter instruct Carlsen to put all his pieces on black squares again :)
Jul-08-09  JohnBoy: I don't think white should take a draw here. Play f3, Rh1, h5 and try to prssure the black king. Where is black's play? ...a4? Hardly.
Jul-08-09  hcbsb: There is the time yet, maybe Carlsen plays as usual, goes on the drawish game and then...

White 42 m
Bkack 1 h 26 m

Jul-08-09  Dionyseus: Analysis by Rybka 3 x64 4CPU:

42.f3 Qa7 43.Rfd1 Qc5 44.Rd2 g6 45.Ra2 Qb4 46.Qd3 Kg7 47.Ra4 Qc3 48.Qxc3 Bxc3 49.Ra3 Bb4 50.Ra2 Bc3 = (0.23) Depth: 21 00:05:19 68422kN

Jul-08-09  Sem: A game that ends in a draw mostly ends up in a drawer.
Jul-08-09  just a kid: I wonder if Carlsen will try to avoid the repetition?
Jul-08-09  waustad: draw agreed
Jul-08-09  Ulhumbrus: White does have one resource left. If White plays f3 and Black plays his other Rook to f8, that allows b4. If not, White can play Bc2 and Qd3
Jul-08-09  JohnBoy: <Dionyseus> What does Rybka give on 42.f3 Qa7 43.h5?
Jul-08-09  twinlark: I did say a draw offer was near...g'night all, from oz.

eternaloptimist: Well, at least it was an interesting draw, & I'll get some chessbucks because of it. : )

This might backfire. Rooks and Queen on the f file and Black might get more then enough counterplay.

Jul-08-09  jcnorcro: A DRAW....how,,ur,,boring!!
Jul-08-09  Knight13: As many have predicted.

Jul-08-09  whiteshark: Finally a fair result.
Jul-08-09  lost in space: Draw - as said at the very beginning.

Oh and btw: last so far!

Jul-08-09  arnaud1959: Very few players would play 35-Bxd5, weakening seriously the important b1-h7 diagonal. But once again Carlsen showed us how different he was. White's last opportunity to take advatage of that weakness by 40.Qe4 fails to 40.-Qb7.
