21. Nxe5 dxe5 22. Rxe5 Qc2 23. Nxd7 Rxd7 24. Qxf6 Qd1+ 25. Re1 O-O 1-0 [ 20. ... Qg6 21. Nxd7 Nxd7 22. Qc6 O-O ] The engine line at move 20 for black would have kept the evalutation close at +0.12. But 22...Qc2? was the move that allowed Naiditsch to coast to victory. |

Nov-17-22 | | Brenin: Black's weak point is e5, so 21 Nxe5 (looking stronger that Bxe5) dxe5 22 Rxe5 Qg6 23 Rxe7+ Kxe7 24 Qa3+ Ke8 25 Nxd7 followed by 26 Re1+ looks good for White. |
|
Nov-17-22 | | Honey Blend: 22. ... ♕g6 was a necessary defense to ♘f6, with ♗e7 being pinned. Now 23. ♖xe7+ ♔xe7 24. ♕a3+ ♔e8 25. ♘xd7: click for larger viewRemoving the ... ♗e6 defense. ♖e1+ now looks crushing. |
|
Nov-17-22 | | jes47: My inclination was 21 Nxd6+, forcing 21...Bxd6, 22 Rxe5 and white is crushing. If 22 ... Qg3 23 Re7+ Kxe7 24 Qa3+ and black can choose his mate, or 22... Qc2 23 Nxd7 transposes to the game. The problem with actual sequence is that after 21 Nxe5 dxe5 22 Rxe5 Qg6 23 Rxe7+ Kxe7 24 Qa3+ Ke8 and although white certainly has an advantage, there is no quick mate. Stockfish rates this position as +3.2 White can do much better with 21 Nxd6+ |
|
Nov-17-22 | | BxChess: <jes47:> In your line 21 Nxd6+ Bxd6 22 Rxe5, 21...Bxe5 gives Black a big advantage |
|
Nov-17-22 | | Brenin: <jes47>: After 21 Nxd6+ Bxd6 White's best tries seem to be 22 Nc4 or Nxd7, with only a slight advantage. As <BxChess> points out, 22 Rxd5 loses to 22 ... Bxe5, with White down by R+B. |
|
Nov-17-22 | | jrredfield: Probably the easiest Thursday POTD for me in several months. I saw the first five or six plies very quickly. Breaking up Black's pawn defense was key. |
|
Nov-17-22 | | mel gibson: White controls e5 so the first ply was easy - 21. Nxe5 looked good.
However time had to spent to see if 21. Nxd6+ was better.
(that is close to a draw according to SF )

Nov-17-22 | | Cellist: I thought of 21.Bxe5, followed by 22.Rxe5, which seems to win if Black takes the B:
21. Bxe5 dxe5 22.Rxe5 Qf4 23.Rxe7+ Kxe7 24.Qa3+ Ke6 25.Re1+ Ne4 26.f3 Bc6 27.fxe4 Qf6 28.Qh3+ g4 29.Qxg4+ Ke7 30.Nd5+ Bxd5 31.exd5+ Kf8 32.Rf1 Qg5 33.Qe6 Qe7 34.Ne5 Qxe6 35.dxe6 Ke7 36.Nxf7 Rhf8 37.Nxd8 Rxd8 38.b4 Rd5 39.Rf7+ Kxe6 40.Rb7 h5 41.b5 Rd1+ 42.Kf2 Rd2+ 43.Kg3 Rb2 44.Kf3 Kf5 45.b6 (+2.15)
But if Black simply castles, the advantage melts to +1. |

Nov-17-22 | | King.Arthur.Brazil: Without thinking much, I went on with 21. ♗xe5!. Conceptually, it open lines to the attack and expose the Black crown. I saw the scenario where, odd moves like 21... ♖g8 22. ♗c3 threates 23. ♘xd6+. But, back to history, 21...dxe5 22. ♖xe5.
Now there are many ways.
A) 22... ♕d3?? 23. ♘d6+ win the ♕.
B) 22...♕e6?? 22. ♗xd6 and Black Queen lose its dress...
C) 22...♕c2? 23. ♘xd7 ♖xd7 24. ♕c8+ ♖d8 25. ♘d6+ ♔f8 26. ♕xc2 also win the ♕. Fellows, the King like to capture the queens! (lgs).
D) 22...♕g4 22. f3 ♕h5 23. ♗xf6 the Black position colapses.
E) 22...♕g6 22. ♗xd6 ♗e6 23. ♕b5+ ♔f8 24. ♗xe7+ ♔xe7 25. ♕c5+ ♔e8 26. ♖a7 ♘g8 27. ♘d5. Here, the King didn't find any imediate check-mate or easy win, but the earth is ready to reap the rewards.
The threat is 28. ♘c7+ ♔d7 29. ♕d6+ ♔c8 30. ♖a8+ ♔b7 31. ♕b6#Therefore, Black must accept the sacrifice. After 22... dxe5 22. ♖xe5, all the other ♕ moves proved to be bad, except:
22...♕g6 form which I failed to find a straightforward line to win. |

Nov-17-22 | | King.Arthur.Brazil: This analysis makes me get back and suspect that the correct move must be sacrifice the ♘ into the same pawns: 21. ♘xe5. [As I caught influenza due to 6 rains that I was gifted during this already 17th days of people manifestation for military army save Brasil from communism. The leftish party that stolen the election, is trying to impose censure and communism by any means. This includes the electronic media, radio, tv and papers, that are telling lies and not showing millions of us in the streets near to the GQs, in many cities of Brazil. So, my health is not very well these days. Sorry. (The editor may remove this comment later, please, before the new game kibitz)]. |

Nov-17-22 | | agb2002: White has a bishop and a knight for the bishop pair and a pawn. The uncastled black king invites to play 21.Nxe5 or 21.Nxd6+ Bxd6 22.Nc4. In the case of 21.Nxd6 Bxd6 22.Nc4 Bb8 (to protect e5) 23.Bxe5 0-0 (23... Bxe5 24.Rxe5+ wins decisive material; 23... Be6 24.Bxb8 Rxb8? 25.Nd6+ wins decisive material) 24.Qxf6 Bxe5 25.Qxe5 Qxe5 26.Rxe5 wins a pawn but might not be enough to win. -----
