May-26-22  mel gibson: I saw that but I didn't see how good it really was.

Stockfish 15 says:

22. Bxe6+

(22. Bxe6+ (♗g4xe6+ ♘d8xe6 ♘c3-d5 ♕e7xg5 ♗h6xg5 ♗h8-g7 ♘d5-f6+ ♗g7xf6 e5xf6 ♔g8-f7 ♗g5-h4 ♖e8-g8 ♖f1-e1 ♘d7-f8 ♕e3-f3 g6-g5 ♗h4-g3 ♘f8-g6 ♕f3xa8 ♘g6-f4 ♕a8xa7+ ♔f7-g6 ♕a7xb6 ♖g8-f8 ♕b6-c6 ♘e6-d4 ♕c6xc5 ♘d4-e2+ ♔g1-h1 ♘f4-e6 ♕c5-c6 ♘e6-d4 ♖d1xd4 ♘e2xd4 ♕c6-d5 ♖f8xf6 ♕d5xd4 h7-h6) +14.28/33 495)

score for White +14.28 depth 33.

May-26-22  raymondhow: Got the first move, then wanted to play 23.Rf7 which leads to only slight advantage for White. Don't think that is worth half credit. Tough week...
May-26-22  agb2002: Black threatens Nxe5.

The pawn on e6 prevents Nd5. This suggests Bxe6+ or Nxe6.

In the case of 22.Bxe6+ Nxe6 23.Nd5 Qd8 24.Nxe6 Rxe6 25.Qf3:

A) 24... Qe8 25.Nc7 Qe7 (25... Bb7 26.Qxb7 wins decisive material) 26.Nxe6 wins decisive material (26... Qxe6 27.Qf8+ Nxf8 28.Rxf8#).

B) 24... Nxe5 25.Qf8+ Qxf8 26.Rxf8#.

C) 24... Bxe5 25.Qf7+ Kh8 26.Qxe6 wins decisive material.

May-26-22  syracrophy: This has been one of the most criminal finishes I've seen lately. Letelier was a ferocious beast. Never forget he was immortalized by Fischer but also knocked him down.
May-26-22  saturn2: I took the clearance of the Ng5 to make place for the bishop 22.Nge4 Nxe5 23. Bg5 Nxg4 24.Qg3
Though black has won a pawn and a bishop the white attack cannot be defended

  whittaker: Crafty actually says 22. Bf3 is +5.20. If 22 ...Rb8 then 23. Nd5! and that's the ball game.
May-26-22  Brenin: White is spoilt for choice here: both 22 Bxe6+ and 22 Nxe6, followed by 23 Nd5, are crushing. He can also try 22 Bf3, and if 22 ... Rb8 then 23 Nd5 exd5 24 Bxd5+, or if 22 ... B(or N)b7 then exchange on b7 followed by Rf7.

Where did Black go wrong? 7 ... Nc6, allowing White to force the N out of play with 8 8d5, and 15 ... Qf6, putting the Q right in the firing line of White's advance, both look like unwise decisions, brutally punished.

  whittaker: Also if 22. Bf3 Bb7 23. Bxb7 Nxb7 24. Rf7 wins.

whittaker: Great minds think alike, Brenin. We posted the same variations at the same time.
May-26-22  Cellist: I saw the same path as <raymondhow> and thought it was winning because trading the Q for R and N (23. ... Qxf7 24. Nxf7 Kxf7) allows 25. Qf3+, winning the R on a8 on the next move and giving White a big advantage. I saw that Black could answer with 23. ... Qd8 but thought that White's attack is overwhelming in this case. But the engine rates this position only as +1.41.
May-26-22  TheaN: Redemption from yesterday. Again a tough position with quite a few choices for White, and the key is to find a combination of moves that doesn't allow Black to mobilize all his forces.

After <22.Bxe6+ Nxe6 (Qxe6 23.Nxe6 +-) 23.Nd5 +-> Black's queen is pressed for space. After 23....Qd8 I intended to play 24.Nf7 +-, not realizing there's still an escape square on h4. However, 24....Qh4 25.g3 Qh5 26.Nxh8 +- is also hopeless for Black. I would have found that OTB, and still justifies a piece sacrifice on e6.

Everything happens because of the undeveloped queen side. The breakthrough on e6 forces it, but White's probably winning with a lot of different moves as well.

  al wazir: My line was 22. Bxe6 Nxe6 23. Rf7 Qd8 (23...Qxf7 24. Nxf7 Kxf7 25. Qf3+) 24. Nxe6 Rxe6 25. Rf8+ Qxf8 (25...Nxf8 26. Rxd8 Bb7) 26. Bxf8 Nxf8, with a win of material.

May-26-22  Hercdon: The position after move 27 would be a good Monday or Tuesday puzzle
