An Englishman: Good Evening: From our Player of the Day for 6 Feb 2023, a complex battle of trap and counter-trap and counters to the counter-traps, plus counters to the counters.

Black might have done better to play 15...Bxg5; 16.Bxg5,f6 and accede to a slightly worse game, but instead sets a trap with 15...h6. White falls in with 16.Nxf7,Nxf7; 17.Qxe6, which seems to fork two minor pieces, but Black thinks he's got him with 17...Nd6 (18.Qxe7?,Rhe8 skewers Q & R). 18.Ne3 springs the counter-trap, threatening 19.Nxd5 and 20.Nxe7+. Black falls into the counter-trap and with 19.Nxd5,Bf6, thinks he has sprung *his* counter-trap and placed all of White's major pieces en prise. After 20...Kxc7, Black has two Knights for the Queen and seems to have more to come, but White springs the final counter-trap with 21.Bf4. It all becomes clear after 24.Be7. White has 3 pawns for the Knight, but more important, a devastating attack. 24...Re8; 25.Rc6+,Kb7; 26.Rxc5+,Kb8; 27.Bd6X. Or 25...Kb8; 26.Bd6+,Ka8; 27.Rc8X. Only severe material loss can stop checkmate.

That was quite a paragraph to write. But the tactics made it all worthwhile. Apologies in advance for any and all typos.
