Phony Benoni: One of the advantages a bishop has over a knight in the endgame is its ability to gain a move. It's not often he gets to flaunt this skill in the middle game, but watch this.

After <25...Ne6>:

The bishop hits the rook with <26.Ba4>. After <26...Red8 27.Bb3>, Black sees nothing better than <27...Re8>, when White has gained a move.

Life goes on with <28.Rd5 Kg8 29.Red1 Rcd8> and now the bishop gets frisky again:

Once more, <30.Ba4 Re7 31.Bc2 Ree8> gains a tempo. White puts it to good use with <32.Qh7+ Kf8>:

Now <33.Ba4> repeats the procedure, but this time the rook can't flee. Black resigned after <33...b6 34.Rxd6>, as 34...Rxd6 35.Qh8+ Ke7 36.Qxe8+ makes it a whole piece.

Phony Benoni: Chess is a many-sided game...

ChessHigherCat: Poly-yak certainly seems to invite many-sided commentary (sorry, couldn't resist).

offramp: Well done on a good pun, <chessbug2>, although you may not read this.

You kibitzed 7 times, submitted this pun, voted on the Caissars and then left forever, all in a whirlwind 2 years.

However, it is quite possible that you come here to visit, perhaps having lost the use of your hands.

<Phony Benoni> is still here, thank God! That was a penetrating comment from 4 years ago.

perfidious: Yes, we are all glad to have <PB> with us as a contributor.

ChessHigherCat: Poly-yak is really Chairman Mao's definition of a Tibetan kulak, who possesses more than one yak and is thus a dangerous bourgeois.
Dec-18-18  catlover: With three losses his only legacy in the CG database, this hapless Polyak appears to be cousin to NN.

<possesses more than one yak> LOL! That explains it! He was corrupted by bourgeois values.

sfm: <Phony Benoni...> Well commented 4.5 years ago. The way White's king-bishop dances its way to a free move - twice - is delightful.

I am afraid you are now required to use the phrase "East European Axed,"
