An Englishman: Good Evening: Found this oddity in our Opening of the Day for 5 January 2012, in which White meets the Steinitz Countergambit of the Mason Variation with the Tchigorin Defense to the Queen's Gambit Declined Reversed. Until I wrote that last sentence, I never realized that I never thought that I would ever write that last sentence.

The game itself is filled with many wonders and curiosities of chess, and worth a look just to White's Bishops after 19.b4.

Jan-05-13  Abdel Irada: I revisit the game on 5 January 2013, although I note that some of the wonders are also blunders.

<An Englishman>: As for your sentence, I don't find it nearly as unexpected as the sentence about the sentence.

Jan-05-13  Shams: Whoa, Nelis.
Jan-05-13  Gilmoy: Carry on, my wanyard son!
Jan-05-13  Abdel Irada: <Shams: Whoa, Nelis.>

Apparently not a "nervous Nelis," so <al wazir> need have no fear.

An Englishman: Good Evening: <Abdel Irada>, I believe what you write about how some of the wonders are also blunders. Indeed I do. But I would have enjoyed watching all the twists and turns in this baffling battle.
Jan-06-13  Abdel Irada: It was indeed an entertaining game in many respects.
Feb-18-16  Carlisle: An Englishman: "The game itself is filled with many wonders and curiosities of chess, and worth a look just to White's Bishops after 19.b4."

Along the same lines, how about the position after 23. Kb3, when the White king is leading the charge, as the only white piece beyond the second rank.

Feb-18-16  morfishine: I don't know if I've ever seen a game quite like this
