<<NOTES.>(a) 3.d3
K Kt to B 3 is usually played at this stage, but the order of the moves is not of much importance.
(b) 4.exd5
P to K 5, though generally preferred, is not superior to the move in the text.
(c) 6...d4
An unusual and somewhat risky move, but it has the advantage of throwing white on his own resources.
(d) 8.h3
This seems somewhat purposeless, and a loss of time.
(e) 9.♘a3
Better to have exchanged pawns. Black can now win at least a pawn.
(f) 9...♘d5
The gain of the Pawn by either K Kt to R 4 or P takes P, followed by K Kt to Q 4, was clear enough, but the move in the text was adopted as more embarrassing.
(g) 14.♔xd2
He should have taken with Kt, but in any case his position was inferior to Black's.
(h) 15.♘xd4
Overlooking Black's rejoinder, independently of which, however, it was an error of judgment to bring his K so far into the enemy's game.>
