Kibitzer's Corner
Jul-25-11  nummerzwei: Why not 31.Qc3 Re3 32.Qxe3 Qxe3 33.hxg4?
Jul-25-11  Balmo: What a game this was, both players were in huge time trouble for about the last twelve moves, lots of complications to navigate through. During the game I thought that 25...Qxc4 with the idea of 26...Ra2 was stronger than Shirov's continuation. Hard to say.
Jul-25-11  Hidden Skillz: <nummerzwei>Exactly. It's not uncommon for Moro to miss simple wins. We have seen that over and over again. Qd2 threw the win away. After 25... Qxc4, White can counter with Rc1
Jul-25-11  luzhin: If Moro tried to grab everything with 31.hxg4 then 31...Re3 32.Qb1 Rxg3 33.Qe4 Rxg2+! 34.Qxg2 Qh4+ 35.Qh3 Qf2+ 36.Qg2 Qh4+ is perpetual check.
Jul-26-11  qqdos: <Hidden Skillz & nummerzwei> Spot on! After 27...e2? White was dominant: 28.Qc3! should have won. In the next 3 moves Moro threw away excellent chances: 29.Qc1! and as you have pointed out 31.Qc3! again. Any one of those alternatives would have secured the victory. <Balmo> Yes, must have been severe time trouble! All the same a very exciting game with so much congestion around the White King's position.
Jul-30-11  lost in space: I have the impression that nothing was simple in this game, neither the attack nor the defense nor the missing of the wins
Aug-13-11  ToTheDeath: Incredible game. Joel Benjamin annotated it in depth on ICC for GOTW.
