Nov-03-11  Blaise99a: Incredible save by the 81 year old man ! Or is it rather a grotesque blunder by the youngster ? My engine puts it near + 8 for black AFTER TIME CONTROL !

And then on move 41.......instead of moving his king out of check, he takes the rook on f2, and white simply checks to infinity. Ooops. Did the Bulgarian forget to count moves and not know he had made time control? Or was he so cocky that he forgot to put his brain on 'I wonder what move my opponent might make in this position? ' mode ?

Nov-03-11  Blaise99a: Looking at it further (with an engine, natch)....white could have simply checked to infinity, but gave black another win apparently by snatching the pawn on 44. Qd6 ? instead of Qe8. Had black gone to Kf7 he could eventually have protected the king from checks with the bishop, granted it is hard to calculate, and he made the normal human move Kh5, possibly not seeing Qd3, and throwing away the win. I can't speculate how deeply GMs can calculate, but what are the time controls here?
Nov-03-11  bronkenstein: <...what are the time controls here?>

Re-posting from the tournament page : <According to ECU and FIDE rules, the time control will be 90 min for 40 moves + 30 min for the rest of the game + 30 sec increment for every move played starting from the first move.>

WannaBe: You've got to give it the 'old man', yes, I know his history, I know his run in/anger/fit with Polgar, etc...

I think, black simply screwed up here. Just my opinion... Or maybe someone will do a really nice analysis here and receive a lot of emails from fans.

Nov-04-11  bronkenstein: Kortchnoi was dead lost OFC until Chepa blundered <41.Bxf2?> ( silent 41.Kf8 was the move - credits to Chessgames Houdini - and no checks , white rook has no good square to go).
Nov-04-11  luzhin: The truly comical point is that after 48...Bg3 49.Qf1 would be CHECKMATE!
Nov-05-11  serenpidity.ejd: Clap!clap!clap! Korchnoi can still play. Can anybody help me as to what the rating of Vic is now? Can he defeat easily Droidfish?
Nov-05-11  bronkenstein: Check this link for info about Victor the Terrible ---> http://ratings.fide.com/card.phtml?....
