An Englishman: Good Evening: In our Opening of the Day for 3 October 2012, Black uncorks an amazing Queen sacrifice--an entire Queen!!--in the hope of either regaining the material with interest or whipping up an attack on the White King. But it is insufficient and in the long run a losing move. Still, I can understand the temptation. If White hadn't hit upon the idea of countersacrificing a Bishop and then a Rook, Black might have won.

perfidious: Another possibility for Fuderer was 26.Ne2, when 26....Ne4 appears to fail against 27.b4, beginning a decisive counterattack, and I do not see any worthwhile alternatives, 26.....Ra8 coming a cropper after 27.Nxa8+ Rxa8 28.Qxc5, when White wins on material.

Had Fuderer chosen this, however, we should not have had the pleasure of the final king hunt, with both monarchs in mortal danger.

At the very least, this appears a Saturday puzzle.
