Nov-27-13  YoungEd: Interesting game; lots of fun tactics from moves 24--30 or so, and then a long endgame. I guess White is a bit tied up at the end, but I'm not sure what the winning plan for Black would be.

Phony Benoni: <YoungEd> There may not be a win for Black. Burdge lost by overstepping the time limit (40/2, 20/1). ["New York Times", August 27, 1940.]

al wazir: This game was drawn and stopped being interesting by move 60.
Apr-22-21  AlicesKnight: Ah - the time thing explains it - White seemed to be resisting the siege (no mean achievement against Fine in 1940) and the opposite-colour Bs were text-book problems for finding a win.
Apr-22-21  goodevans: <al wazir: This game was drawn and stopped being interesting by move 60.> A lot sooner than that, I'd say.

I assumed when I saw <32...Bb5> that <33...Bc6> was coming and was mighty surprised that it didn't. Why on Earth didn't Fine play it and save everyone a lot of bother?

Apr-22-21  goodevans: A fine pun, though.
Apr-22-21  Ironmanth: Great fight for squares here! Thanks, chessgames. Y'all stay safe today.
Apr-22-21  RookFile: Final position is completely equal. As Phony Benoni said, white lost on time.

Gottschalk: <RookFile> 79...Be4 extracts square f5 for rook, because is threatening 80...Kg7.

HeMateMe: One of OCF's better efforts.

Looking at this I kept thinking "How is black winning?" Ah, it WUZ a time forfeit. In any case, a fine Fine game.
