 | | HeMateMe: I wonder why black won this game. As the middle game ended, they each had four pawns, same side of the board, symmetrical set up. Seems drawable. But, Krush makes a move that makes one of her pawns backward, and the house caves in. Unfortunate, these being such short matches. She will have to gather resolve and win the next game. |

click for larger viewWhat exactly is the White rook doing on h3??? If that White h3-rook was on b1 or d1, then White would be fine. To me this game is a perfect example of Dr. Tarrasch's saying <"IF ONE PIECE IS BAD, THEN THE WHOLE POSITION IS BAD">. It's almost as if White is playing down by a rook. |

Nov-18-12 | | drmariogodrob: It seems that after 20. Qb1, white is forced to end up either a) down an a-pawn, or b) with the rook on h3 out of the game; certainly Irina would not voluntarily put her rook there! So she must have missed something earlier, and then had to choose an evil. I disagree with <HeHateMe> about the ending seeming drawable--white's position is horrific after Rh3. As white, I would have considered 29. Kh1, so that at least something about my position would be attractive: I would have a lovely X of pieces! |

Nov-18-12 | | drmariogodrob: In the position after move 28, black has full and uncontestable control over 75% of the board--the a-d files, and the 5-8 ranks. If chess is a reasonable and logical game, such a positional advantage is required to be winning. |

click for larger viewThat is the whole point of Dr. Tarrasch's dictum: <White has no compensation for her terribly offside White h3-rook.> Where the game is being decided, in the center and on the queenside, White is playing down by a full rook! Is there any wonder that White goes down in flames??? |
