Jan-17-13  Eyal: 17.Qd3, among other things, prevented 17...Ne4? because of 18.Nxd5!; 17...Qb6 may be preparing Rcd8.
Jan-17-13  LucB: <DcGentle: <LucB>: This warnings comes only when the video live stream is activated and can be ignored, I guess.>

I prevents me from maximizing the video screen. Oh well, no worries ... body language is highly overrated anyway!

;o)

Jan-17-13  Marmot PFL: So white has decided to trade down. Could be a draw offer but maybe white has seen something in an ending.
Jan-17-13  Marmot PFL: Probably just a draw. As someone said the other day there are plenty of weaker players here to beat so the top guys don't need to beat each other up.
Jan-17-13  Cemoblanca: The video live stream runs on my iPhone <LucB>. Very comfortable. ;)
Jan-17-13  achieve: Sorry but this looks very drawish, although they are ethically obliged to the organizer to play beyond move 30. I hope I'm wrong though, and some excitement may be still ahead.
Jan-17-13  norami: <LucB> Unlike certain other activities, chess is not one in which I prefer to observe the bodies of the participants as they engage in the activity.
Jan-17-13  chessdgc2: Goodness, no one has mentioned Black lately...and his position is at least as active and this might include a "warnings" :)
Jan-17-13  Eyal: This simplification indeed doesn't look dangerous for Black, e.g. 20.Qxd5 Rxc2 21.Ne5 Nxe5 22.Rxe5 Qc6! (22...Rd8?? 23.Rxe7!) and a handshake seems imminent.
Jan-17-13  LucB: <Cemoblanca: The video live stream runs on my iPhone <LucB>. Very comfortable. ;)>

Hmm maybe it's a MAC-PC thing. Time to borrow my daughter's MB pro! :D

Jan-17-13  DcGentle: White got rid of Black's d-pawn, but a win for either side seems unlikely just now.
Jan-17-13  Pedro Fernandez: 20...Bf6 seems risky but interesting.
Jan-17-13  stunningmove: I can't see a win for either player here. An extremely balanced position.
Jan-17-13  Eyal: I suppose taking the b-pawn is equally good for Black: 20...Qxb2 21.Rab1 Qxc2 22.Rxb7 Red8.
Jan-17-13  Pedro Fernandez: <Eyal: I suppose taking the b-pawn is equally good for Black: 20...Qxb2 21.Rab1 Qxc2 22.Rxb7 Red8.> This rook on 7th rank it looks not good for black <Eyal>, but let's see.
Jan-17-13  chessdgc2: Eval: Way to go! I saw exactly the same thing...knowing Carlsen though, he won't want to give antyhing back unless it is entirely irrelevant...allowing Anand to get a R on the seventh rank ain't so sweet, especially with a Queen to support it and the possibility of the other rook joining in later
Jan-17-13  Cemoblanca: <LucB: <Cemoblanca: The video live stream runs on my iPhone <LucB>. Very comfortable. ;)>

I had the same problems with the Opera Browser, but after installing the Flash Player for Internet Explorer everything runs fine now. Just want to let you know.

Jan-17-13  Eyal: Actually, the commentator on chesspro (Eugene Glazer) notes that Black might encounter problems in the line 20...Rxc2 21.Ne5 Nxe5 22.Rxe5 Qc6 - and now 23.Qxc6 Rxc6 24.Rd1 Kf8 25.Rd7 Rb6 26.Re3! (26.Re2 Ba3!!) 26... Bc5 (26...Rb2? 27.Rexe7!) 27.Rc3!
Jan-17-13  SetNoEscapeOn: Carlsen has Lasker's sense of danger, doesn't rush in a seemingly innocent position.
Jan-17-13  Ulhumbrus: For the moment White has an extra pawn.

In addition to this White's queen occupies the centre and attacks the f7 pawn. His king's rook occupies the e file and attacks Black's king's bishop on e7 and attacks indirectly Black's king's rook on e8.

Against all this White's queen's rook is undeveloped while Black's queen's rook occupies the c file, and Black's queen and queen's rook each attack a pawn.

On 20...Rxc2 black's bishop on e7 is pinned and this suggests taking advantage of black's king's bishop to play either 21 Bd6 or 21 Ng5.

On 20..Qxb2 21 Rb1 develops White's queen's rook with tempo and on 21...Qxc2 22 Rxb7 it is Black who is a pawn ahead but White's previously undeveloped queen's has developed to the seventh rank.

It may be that Carlsen has a difficult choice to make at this point, and is spending some time making it.

Jan-17-13  Ulhumbrus: A correction to my previous message. On 21 Rab1 Qxc2 22 Rxb7 White is not a pawn down because 22 Rxb7 has picked up a pawn.
Jan-17-13  chessdgc2: Eval: Good job with your analyses...there is however, a vast range of "counter-factors", some of those are extremely unclear while others favor White
Jan-17-13  Eyal: Btw, in the line 20...Qxb2 21.Rab1 Qxc2 22.Rxb7 Red8 the idea is to bring next the black bishop or queen to c5, depending on White's response. For example, 23.Qb3 Qxb3 24.axb3 Bc5 and now 25.Ng5 shouldn't be dangerous because of 25...Rd5! (26.Nxf7 Rf8).
Jan-17-13  Cemoblanca: Here's an interesting drawish line: 21.Rab1 Qxc2 22.Rxb7 Red8 23.Qb3 Qxb3 24.axb3 Bc5!? 25.Ng5 Rd5! 26.Nxf7 Rf8 27.b4 Rxf7 28.Rxf7 Bxb4! 29.Rb1 Kxf7 30.Rxb4 a5!?, etc.

FSR: <Cemoblanca> Yes, Houdini 3 gives that exact line as virtually equal (+.14).
