Penguincw: < "In the Challengers group Ivan Saric was close to taking the lead, almost defeating Baadur Jobava. The persistent Georgian, however, found a brilliant way to squeeze out, as he called it, 'a miracle escape' with 41. …a5!! (see diagram) After 42.g7 a4 43.g8=Q Rxg8 44.Nxg8 axb3 45.cxb3 Be4+ 46.Ka2 Bd5 47.Rg3 Bxg8 48.Qxg8 Qd2+ Saric couldn’t avoid the perpetual checks." >

This game could be crucial in deciding who wins the tournament, as there are only 5 rounds (this tournament has 14 players still).

Jan-19-14  MatijaK: Incredibly what black manage to pull off on move 41. ... a5!!
Jan-20-14  Everett: Looks like Jobava is trying out KID-type set-ups on the Q-side, delaying the c-pawn push, castling Q-side...

Dec-17-15  Nezhmetdinov: The systemwith a bishop on b7 is a patent of Petrosian see :F Olafsson vs Petrosian, 1961
Nov-13-22  goodevans: 41...a5!! was indeed an incredible save.

In hindsight should Saric have pushed <41.g7> straight away rather than prepare it with 41.Nf6? 41...Bd5 would have been the most obvious reply but maybe what Saric was really trying to avoid was <41.g7 Be4> with the idea of sac'ing on c2 to expose the White K to a coordinated attack with Q and R.

perfidious: <goodevans>, seems to me you are correct; preventing 41....Be4 looks to leave Black without resource, but for the idea he conjured up from nowhere.
