Kibitzer's Corner
Mar-17-14  Karpova: I left the <N. Weinstock>, as Lajos Steiner annotated the game, so he may be right about <N.> (and not Karl). But perhaps someone else can shed light on which Weinstock participated in the 20th Trebitsch Memorial 1937.

Black is already in difficulties, but 21...Qf6 may still be better than the text move, although Steiner simply says that 21...Qf6 22.Re1 and the push ...e5 is prevented. Black could play 22...Rxd6 23.Qxd6 Qxc3+ 24.Kd1 Qxc4 which looks interesting, but Black's position in the ensuing ♗ vs ♖ endgame may in the end not be better than after the text move.

Oct-26-21  Alan McGowan: I believe that 'N. Weinstock' is a typo; Black was most likely Karl Weinstock

There is a references to Karl Weinstock in the Wiener Schachzeitung 1933, p187. All later references in that publication show 'K. Weinstock.'

The 1968 Lachaga publication about the history of the Trebitsch tournaments gives K. Weinstock in the crosstable of the 1937/38 event, and Karl Weinstock in the text.

The only reference to N. Weinstock is in the WSz 1938, p22, and I can find no other mentions of such a player, except when this game is published elsewhere.

I will also make a submission of additional material to the Karl Weinstock page.
