Kibitzer's Corner
Apr-24-14  Karpova: This game from the tournament of the <Wiener Schachgesellschaft>, is given by Zinkl in his notes to Reti vs J Krejcik, 1910. He claims that 11...Qb6 as played here was the necessary move. Not mentioned is 11...Qc7 which also looks sensible.

18.f4 is a mistake and now Black has a clear advantage. Zinkl merely notes that the ♙ could not have been won back. But he seems to have overlooked 18.Rxb7 Bxe5 19.dxe5 Rxe5 20.Nxd5 thanks to the placement of Black's ♕. White seems to have a small plus in this line.

With 22.Qe2, White misses a good chance to decrease Black's advantage, again possible thanks to the bad placement of Black's ♕. Zinkl believes that <22.Qxe4> was not possible due to <...f6>, but 22.Qxe4 f6 23.Nc4 Rxe4 24.Nxa5.
