Kibitzer's Corner
Aug-12-14  Karpova: Leonhardt and Mieses played a match in April 1905. Mieses won +5 -1 =1. This game, the only draw, was played in the 1st round. The game score was originally published in the 'Nottingham Daily Guardian'.

The annotator awards 14...cxb2 a <?>, since it was too dangerous. He suggests <14...Be7> instead. The position is certainly interesting and I'm not sure if the annotator's assessment is correct.

16...Qa4 is not annotated, but it's certainly worth a look. 16...Qd2 is an interesting alternative.

17...Kb8 is a blunder, losing a piece. the annotator notes that also, but merely considers it to be the effect of the previous moves (13...cxb2 and 15...0-0-0). Mieses should have tried 17...Bc5.

When he is down two ♖s, Mieses finds a way to force a draw.

Apr-24-19  Straclonoor: <When he is down two ♖s, Mieses finds a way to force a draw.> 23.Kf2? fatal mistake! After Kg2 or Kh2 white wins easy.
