Apr-04-15  RookFile: I thought Kamsky was going to win this, but all of a sudden he has to fight for the draw.
Apr-04-15  Karposian: <RookFile> Yes, I thought so too. Very speculative opening play by Gareev landed him in a little trouble, and Kamsky's position looked promising for a while, in particular his Queenside pawn majority.

But then things started to turn around and suddenly Gareev had the advantage with his dangerous c- and d- pawns. I cannot understand why he did not play 31.Bxc7, though. It seemed rather obvious. But apart from that, they both played well. An interesting game. It's not so often one sees the Sicilian Wing Gambit in top level play.

Apr-12-15  Mr. V: Perhaps Gareev could continue with 45. Ke2

perfidious: Sure White could have played on that way, but Kamsky could then force off queens, play ....Ke7 and shuttle his bishop on the d6-a3 diagonal for ever and ever. No hope whatever of winning this, short of an earthquake.
Apr-18-15  Mr. V: Yes, I guess that's true. I didn't think to exchange queens.
