fredthebear: Black pays a steep price for pawn grabbing in this game, opening lines w/a lag in development.

fredthebear: 4...c4 is also a positional mistake at this point of the game, taking pressure off the center when Black should be developing a minor piece.

A quick peek at Stockfish says try these 4th moves for Black instead:

1) +0.19 (36 ply) 4...Nf6 5.exd5 exd5 6.Bb5+ Bd7 7.Bxd7+ Nbxd7 8.O-O Be7 9.dxc5 Nxc5 10.Nb3 Nce4 11.c3 O-O 12.Be3 Bd6 13.Re1 Re8 14.Qc2 Rc8 15.Rad1 Qd7 16.Bxa7 Ra8 17.Bd4 Rxa2 18.Nbd2 Raa8 19.Nxe4 Nxe4 20.Be3 Qb5 21.Nd4 Qc4 22.Nf5 Be5 23.f3 Nc5 24.Bxc5 Qxc5+ 25.Qf2 Qc4

2) +0.19 (35 ply) 4...Nf6 5.exd5 exd5 6.Bb5+ Bd7 7.Bxd7+ Nbxd7 8.O-O Be7 9.dxc5 Nxc5 10.Nb3 Nce4 11.c3 O-O 12.Be3 Bd6 13.Re1 Re8 14.Qc2 Rc8 15.Rad1 Qd7 16.Bxa7 Ra8 17.Bd4 Rxa2 18.Nbd2 Raa8 19.Nxe4 Nxe4 20.Be3 Qb5 21.Nd4 Qc4 22.Nf5 Be5 23.f3 Nc5 24.Bxc5 Qxc5+ 25.Qf2 Qc4

3) +0.28 (35 ply) 4...Nc6 5.exd5 exd5 6.Bb5 cxd4 7.Nb3 Bb4+ 8.Bd2 Bxd2+ 9.Qxd2 Nf6 10.Qb4 Qe7+ 11.Qxe7+ Kxe7 12.O-O Kd6 13.Nfxd4 Bd7 14.Bd3 Ne5 15.Be2 Rac8 16.Rad1 Rhe8 17.c3 Ke7 18.Nc2 Nc4 19.Nbd4 g6 20.Bxc4 dxc4 21.h3 Kf8 22.Ne3 b5 23.Ndc2 Kg7

That being said, Black would have been equal after 11...Nge7 12.Nf3 Nf5, having developed both knights to useful squares. This is a key Black maneuver in many lines of the French Defense, Advance Variation.
