Phony Benoni: Looking at the board
On a cold December day,
Trying to force a mate
In any simple way.
That capture on h2
I learned when I was born,
What fun it is to sac your Queen
This blessed Monday Morn!

Penguincw: In the world of sports:

Golden State snaps their winning streak by losing by 13 points, McGregor knocksout Aldo in 13 seconds, Panthers improve to 13-0, and yesterday was Dec/13. :O

Sorry for the unrelated post, I had nothing else to mention.

Anyway, typical, easy Monday puzzle here with a queen sac, check, pointless blocks, mate.

29...Qxh2+ 30.Kxh2 Rh6+ 31.Bh4+ Rxh4# 0-1.

1/1 this week.

Dec-14-15  lost in space: I love Monday’s!

29...Qxh2+ 30. Kxh2 (only move) Rh6+ 31. Bh4 (only move) Rxh4#

Dec-14-15  stst: Q-sac, routine

29....... Qxh2+
30.Kxh2(forced) Rh6+
31.Bh4(pointless except to delay one move) Rxh4#

.... No other escape squares nor files (h-file R+
f1,f3 are checked by B and P resp.)

Dec-14-15  kubbybulin: Qh2 mates. Sorry nothing to add, first puzzle I've solved before the coffee was done brewing since last week's easy-for-a-Thursday puzzle.
Dec-14-15  kubbybulin: Ok, coffee's done. This is one strange way to attack a French.
Dec-14-15  patzer2: Today's Monday Queen Sac 29...Qxh2+ , for mate-in-three, is a combination most club players see at blitz speed.

Less obvious is that 24. Nc1? is the losing move, allowing 24...Ng3+! (-4.04 @ 20 depth, Deep Fritz 14).

Instead, 24. b4 = (-0.05 @ 20 depth) holds it level.

Dec-14-15  psionl0: 10 seconds.
Dec-14-15  agb2002: Black has a rook and a bishop for two knights.

Black can deliver mate in three with 29... Qxh2+ 30.Kxh2 Rh6+ 31.Bh4 Rxh4#.

Dec-14-15  nazgulord: Queen sac Mondays :).
Dec-14-15  Cheapo by the Dozen: Well done, <Phony Benoni>
Dec-14-15  zb2cr: 29. ... Qxh2+ does it. After 30. Kxh2, Rh6+ and mate in one more move.
Dec-14-15  morfishine: White King is cornered like a rat:

<29...Qxh2+> 30.Kxh2 Rh6 mate

*****

Dec-14-15  Ratt Boy: <Phony Benoni>:
That's some beautiful stuff. Thanks for brightening a cold December morn!
Dec-14-15  Sularus: Queen sac
rook checks
rook captures and mates
Dec-14-15  M.Hassan: Black is 2 points ahead. he has Rook+Bishop for 2 Knights and a Queen sac solves this Monday's puzzle: 29..........Qxh2+
30.Kxh2(forced) Rh6+
31.Bh4 Rxh4#
Dec-14-15  Once: 30...g3+ would have been more sadistic.
Dec-14-15  notyetagm: Vanderlei Cason Melo vs Evansue Serra, 1982 <morfishine: White King is cornered like a rat:>

It's not that the king is cornered, it's that <THE KING IS TRAPPED IN A CORRIDOR ON THE h-FILE>, so that all that needs to be done is to remove the defender that closes the line (29 ... Qh5xh2+!) and then give mate on the open h-file (30 Kh1xKh2 Rf6-h6#).

Dec-14-15  kevin86: Mate in 3 started by queen sac...typical Monday.

gawain: Fantastic finish, starting with the dramatic 29...Qxh2+. White is fatally weak on the h-file.
Dec-14-15  garrido: Very easy but monday Queene sacrifice in h2
