Nov-21-19  7he5haman: Surely 19...0-0-0 was a better try?
Nov-21-19  Ironmanth: Nice buildup of pressure by White. What would have been Magnus' rating at the time this was played?
Nov-21-19  7he5haman: To follow up on my previous comment, if 19...0-0-0, one idea from White is:

20.Rd6, threatening bxc5 & c6, opening lots of lines to Black's King.

But then 20...Rhe8 21.bxc5 Nb8 and Black can struggle on.

This looks much more playable for Black than the game.

Nov-21-19  goodevans: 17.Qxe6 must have been tempting, regaining the pawn, putting black's K in a bind and giving black a few threats to think about (e.g. Nxg5 or Rd1). I wonder what put him off playing this given it's the 'obvious' move most club players would likely have chosen.

As <7he5haman> points out, after Magnus shunned this capture black could have got a decent game with 19...O-O-O. Sometimes the obvious move is also the best.

In Apr-2004 his rating was 2548.

Nov-21-19  goodevans: <7he5haman> After <19...O-O-O 20.Rd6> black could also play more actively than in your last post. I like <20...g4> so that when the N moves black can follow up with <...Bd4>.

Black needn't be afraid of <Rxe6> (either before or after the N moves) since the little sidestep <...Qf7> attacks f2 making <...Bd4> even stronger.

Nov-21-19  RandomVisitor: After the suggested 19...0-0-0 black has an even game
