An Englishman: Good Morning: If tournaments gave prizes for best insane brawls that end in perpetual check, Andreikin-Eljanov just clinched it.

keypusher: Tournament directors who like excitement should definitely consider Eljanov for their invite list.

offramp: Soon White will advance his a2 pawn to a3. Then we will go completely around the block again until about move 110. Then the pawn will advance to a4....
Jan-24-17  Shams: <tamar> Thanks for posting that link recently to Adhiban's chessbase article on his Tata B Group victory last year. What a fighter as we are seeing again today.

tamar: Fantastic save by Adhiban. I think he can hold now.
Jan-24-17  Bravehorse: I don't think Adhiban can save this

tamar: Never mind that nevermind. It is just the lag. Bravo Adhiban.

  tamar: Play on!
Jan-24-17  Shams: Exhausting, yes, but if you have to play a marathon this is an opportune time: the day after a rest day, and with only one more game before the next rest day. Tomorrow Adhiban has White against an out-of-form Nepo. Will he take a short draw or try to jump into the pack just above him at equal second?

offramp: Knight to rook 1, no harm done.
Jan-24-17  weisyschwarz: You have to like Aronian the rest of the way.

ketchuplover: why is the board disoriented???????/
Jan-24-17  Amulet: I tend to believe that GM Adhivan is the future of chess in India.
Jan-25-17  SandyJames: Can somebody please explain the idea behind Blacks 6...Na6, 7...c6 and 8...Nc7? Thank you!

  tpstar: <6 ... Na6/7 ... c6/8 ... Nc7> After 5. e4 d6 this game transposed into a King's Indian Defense. Black's typical plan involves ... e5 to induce d4-d5 by White closing the center, then Black plays for ... f7-f5 and a Kingside attack. This is a different approach where Black plays for ... b7-b5, taking advantage of the Pe4 being defended by the Nc3 only, where Nxb5 by White is answered by ... Nxe4 by Black. So those three moves 6 ... Na6, 7 ... c6 & 8 ... Nc7 are all preparation for 9 ... b5.

Note Black usually plays 6 ... e5 = Repertoire Explorer: Baskaran Adhiban (black)

6. h3 becomes the vaunted Makagonov System = King's Indian, Makagonov System (5.h3) (E71)

Jan-25-17  SandyJames: Thank you tpstar!
