Apr-27-17  Marmot PFL: Often move 40 is a mistake and here black gets little or nothing for the sacrifice.
Apr-28-17  ajile: 31..b5? Why? He could have played 31..Raf7 to double rooks and still have time to defend the d6 pawn with either ..Be7 or ..Bc7. But wasting time with 31..b5 means White gets to attack the d6 pawn BEFORE Black can swing the rook to f7. This means to defend the d6 pawn with the bishop now blocks the rook from swinging over to the f file. Seems to me Black simply plays 31..Raf7 first and now still has time to defend the d6 pawn with his DSB. In the game Black simply gives up the d6 pawn without a fight.
Apr-28-17  ChessHigherCat: <ajile: 31..b5?> He must have been hoping for 32. cb Rc7, sacrificing a pawn or two to get the c file (but baby no eat b pawn)
Apr-28-17  Marmot PFL: Don't see anything wrong with 31...b5. In exchange for d6 black gets h4 and opens lines on white's king. later on 38...Bxd2 39 Qxd2 Qxe4 and black should be fine.

keypusher: 31....b5 was Stockfish's top move on chessbomb, though really there was no difference in the evaluation for that and 31....Raf7 (-1.06 versus -1.04). In the game continuation Stockfish liked Black quite a lot after 31....b5 32.Rd3 bxa4 33.bxa4 Raf7 34.Rxd6 Bxh4 35.Rd5. Black went wrong with 35....f3 instead of 35....Qe6, the engine thought.

Thanks for the post. What was the engine eval after 35..Qe6 in your line?

keypusher: <ajile> -1.35 or thereabouts, but it gave no moves (and Stockfish on chessbomb is running a pretty shallow search). Certainly not obvious to me how the game would have gone after that.
