Dec-18-17  morfishine: 31.Qxh7+

32.Rh4+

mate

*****

Dec-18-17  agb2002: White has a bishop and a knight for the bishop pair and a pawn.

Black threatens Rxb3+ followed by fxg6 and Be4 with the idea Bxc2+ Bxc2 Qb6+.

White can deliver mate in three with 31.Qxh7+ Kxh7 32.Rh4+ Kh7 33.Rh8#.

Dec-18-17  AlicesKnight: 31. Qxh7+ leads to mate; ....Kxh7; 32.Rh4+ etc. Missable in rapid perhaps.
Dec-18-17  jffun1958: 31. Qxh7+ Kxh7 32. Rh4+ Kg8 33. Rh8#
Dec-18-17  Abdullah Alkhalifi: Why not move 30. Rd4 h6
Dec-18-17  et1: Poor kid, this is what happens when you play a GM. Nice puzzle.
Dec-18-17  malt: Monday is back on track
31.Q:h7+ K:h7 32.Rh4+ Kg8 33.Rh8#

  Willber G: <lost in space: 31. Qxh7+ Kxh7 32. Rh4#>

Nope, not yet...

Dec-18-17  sid299792: How did I solve this puzzle?

Step 1: Checked where I could sac my Queen

Step 2: Calculated a few moves ahead

This is how I usually eat my Monday meal!

Dec-18-17  JonKing: You feel so good on Mondays :P
Dec-18-17  whiteshark: <31.Qxh7+!!> and that's it.
Dec-18-17  zb2cr: It's not mate in two, it's mate in three.
31. Qxh7+, Kxh7; 32. Rh4+, Kg8. Seems a number of posters here missed that the King has that escape square to temporarily flee his fate. But it's only temporary, as 33. Rh8# is, finally, checkmate.
Dec-18-17  awfulhangover: Saw the correct solution in 0.000001 seconds :-)
Dec-18-17  StevieB: Took a bit but eventually there it was. Good old queen sac on a Monday.
Dec-18-17  Halldor: Obviously a Monday today. Nice three-mover, ― with queen sac of course.
Dec-18-17  benjaminpugh: My first thought on Mondays is usually: how did the position get so bad? Here is a lesson in protecting your king over gobbling up pieces. After 30.Rd4, clearly setting up the rook sweep to h4, instead of protecting mate, black takes the now unprotected e pawn? The simple h6 prevents the attack completely, though black is still behind.
Dec-18-17  JeffH1165: Hard to believe Black let his King get boxed in this late in the game with no means of escape.
Dec-18-17  leRevenant: Black's result derails and leaves to be desired.
Dec-18-17  johngalt5579: done in 1 second , not even worth looking at.
Dec-18-17  schweigzwang: Well then I guess *that's* a second of our lives we're never getting back!
Dec-18-17  ChessHigherCat: The puzzle was easy and everything's already been said, but I get the feeling black missed a fairly easy win with 18...d4!! If 19. Nxc3 exf3
If 19. Nxd4 Rxd4! followed by Qa3
If white trades bishops his king is more exposed than a Polynesian flasher. Black is also threatening Bxb3 and white has to recapture with b2 to prevent Qa1#..

jinkinson: Almost instantly--didn't even have to look at the whole board! Now this is my kind of Monday problem.
Dec-18-17  Nullifidian: 31. ♕xh7+ ♔xh7 32. ♖h4+ ♔g8 33. ♖h8#
Dec-19-17  kevin86: Queen sac leads to Reti-Tartokower finish
