  moronovich: Aronian has just resigned.
Mar-22-18  ChessHigherCat: e6 would lose the bishop, not just a pawn
Mar-22-18  chessdgc2: Yes, it is possible Black will accept a perpet here.

chancho: All those tournament wins that Aronian has won of late, I'll bet ya he'd gladly give them up to win this candidates tournament.

Alas, it's not meant to be.

Mar-22-18  whiteshark: So Kramnik's delayed-action winning streak begins - the recovery is on!

;)

Mar-22-18  not not: comm on Fabiano be cynical and force a draw ur in pole position!
Mar-22-18  BOSTER: Rook e8+ is always good.
Mar-22-18  ChessHigherCat: At least this way white can weasel out of mate: Rxg3+ Kf4 and maybe Rh3 black has to watch out for the king invasion, too.

moronovich: This will end in a perp soon.

Sneaky: Surely there's nothing more here than the obvious draw?
Mar-22-18  chessdgc2: Kg4!!! No, it’s not that this move is so strong, it’s so “GUTSY”!!! White is taking a risk, showing that he’s out to win at all costs! Why not? With everything what it is, anything could possibly happen, but he’s playing Caruana!
Mar-22-18  whiteshark: This reminds me to assess my
Game Collection: 47f_RR vs RB (plus pawns)
Mar-22-18  ChessHigherCat: Would this win for black? Rxg3+ Kf4 Rdf3+ Kd4 Rf7
Mar-22-18  ChessHigherCat: Maybe not: Rf7 Rxf7 e6+! and bishop takes rook
Mar-22-18  Petrosianic: <moronovich: Aronian has just resigned.>

How could he?? He's not even in this game!

Mar-22-18  chessdgc2: ChessHigherCat: Good question, it’s likely what will happen, though.
Mar-22-18  Ulhumbrus: The computer analysis suggests that Black can lose. White's king threatens to march up to h6, f6 or e6 and Black can't just do anything
Mar-22-18  not not: but if other rook joins assault with check on f3, white king cannot go up
Mar-22-18  morfishine: Brilliant combination by Kramnik! He's back in it!
Mar-22-18  ChessHigherCat: Black has a perpet for sure but I don't think white was ever better (Black can draw now??)
Mar-22-18  cocker: If the king goes to g5, Black must play 43 ... Rf7

36. Qe5 was a clever trap set by Kramnik, and, running short on the clock, Aronian fell into it.

Kramnik nevertheless still has quite a hill to climb to contend for first place, having several players ahead of him in the standings and being two full points behind the leader with only four rounds remaining.

Mar-22-18  sadow: Now black can go for win!!
Mar-22-18  Marmot PFL: Only these two players can win now. Grischuk had a chance but barely even tried today.
Mar-22-18  ChemMac: Now Black could try to win the game. I think Mamedyarov would have been sensible to take the draw.
