Apr-08-18  Whitehat1963: Looks like a draw to Stockfish.

  offramp: <Jack Kerouac: <offramp> Actually, more like Bell's Oberon...>

I'm in England so I mainly drink real ale. I will try to get hold of some Oberon, if it crosses the Ocean.

Apr-08-18  ChessHigherCat: SF is terrible at end game evaluations. White can play Ba3, march the king back to c2 and attack the g4 pawn (hours of fun-filled entertainment to come, stay tuned kids!)
Apr-08-18  Pedro Fernandez: << Whitehat1963>: Looks like a draw to Stockfish.> No! No Stockfish. "To <Whitehat> looks a clear draw!"
Apr-08-18  morfishine: Carlsen wins here, its a mere matter of time

Which reminds me, its time for the Masters! Later You all!

Apr-08-18  chessdgc2: White seems to have more choices than Black,. He can easily force exchanges of either R or B and Black has doubled c-pawns...is this enuf to win? Maybe.....
Apr-08-18  ChessHigherCat: The thing is that if Kc2, black can mate with Rc1 now if he can ever get to the back rank.

offramp: So the Masters is on, <morfishine>, you old golf hound!

There is a lot of sport on at the moment. The Commonwealth Games are on but I spent the day watching the Paris Roubaix Cycle Race.

Apr-08-18  Ulhumbrus: If the White king could get into the game Black might get into trouble. This suggests the plan for White of playing his king to c2 followed by b3.
Apr-08-18  Whitehat1963: <Pedro Fernandez>, Stockfish sees a lot more clearly than me!

FSR: I will win a fortune in chessbucks if Magnus prevails, but I doubt he'll succeed. Hope I'm wrong.
Apr-08-18  Pedro Fernandez: <<chessdgc2>: White seems to have more choices than Black,. He can easily force exchanges of either R or B and Black has doubled c-pawns...is this enuf to win? Maybe.....> There is no chance to win my dear <chesssdgc2> The folding black pawns are contiguous with the linked white queenside pawns, so no big deal. Further black K+R+B are located in an excellent position. Now apparently Magnus thinks attack the black bishop, innocuous! Greetings!
Apr-08-18  morfishine: Hello <offramp> Good to hear from you, I played pro golf events locally here for a number of years, but never "cashed in", but I hold a respectable 4 handicap at my advanced age of 58, and have always professed, while the US Open is the most difficult test due to the setup, the British Open offers the most severe problems to solve, particularly when weather impedes

Oh dear, I can't imagine playing Carnoustie in poor weather. It would simply be unplayable

FSR: I pocket 14,250 chessbucks if Carlsen wins. Go Magnus!

An Englishman: Good Morning: So Black Rook and White Bishop have been tied down to the defense of weak pawns, and White's King hasn't a point of entry. The Black King can't wander away from the defense of the g pawn. Black's Bishop can't try Bg5-e3-f2 because of Rh7-h4. They look well and truly stuck.

FSR: Now it suddenly looks like Black is in trouble, although the computer as usual says that Black can hold.

An Englishman: Good Morning: And as I wrote my last post, Black allowed 61.Rg7. Unless I missed something else *yet again,* Vitiugov will sacrifice both c-pawns for the g3 pawn, probably after ...Rd2+ to drive back the King.

offramp: <morfishine: ...Oh dear, I can't imagine playing Carnoustie in poor weather. It would simply be unplayable?>

It is so great looking on telly at the pluperfect American courses, especially when "the rain it raineth every day" in Britain.

For Scots and Irish people golf is a very social thing, a Dad might take his son out for a thrash around the links. It is not an elitist thing, despite what it says on the ball.

offramp: Sorry, the ball says Titleist, not elitist.
Apr-08-18  ChessHigherCat: When are you guys going discuss the splendid tiger hunting in India, C. almighty! As a pseudo-representative of the cockney crowd, I sez take the bloody g4 pawn I sez!
Apr-08-18  BOSTER: White can't take on g4 because after Rg2 and Kf7 the mobility of the white rook is limited.

  FSR: <ChessHigherCat> On 63.Rxg4 Rd8! intending 64...Kf7 leaves the rook with nowhere to go. Then 64.Rg6 Kf7 65.Rh6?? runs into 65...Bg5+ 0-1.

FSR: Drawn! Brilliant defense by Vitiugov. <Sob>
Apr-08-18  ChessHigherCat: <FSR> Thanks, I didn't analyze it, I was just imitating the cockney crowd. Tayk the bleeeeding pawwwwn!
