Mar-28-19 | | Ulhumbrus: White seems to dominate the centre |
Mar-28-19 | | Gypsy: An added treat broadcast.
It looks like a live game. |
Mar-28-19 | | Gypsy: <34. Rc7> And we have a rook endgame, which does look like the proverbial draw. |
Mar-28-19
 | | offramp: Black might have chances... You never know. |
Mar-28-19 | | Gypsy: LDP has an extra pawn, Sevian has better pieces. |
Mar-28-19 | | Gypsy: <offramp: Black might have chances... You never know.> Indeed. (I do see draw forthcoming, however) |
Mar-28-19
 | | offramp: <Gypsy> I am sure you are right. |
Mar-28-19 | | Gypsy: Speaking of rook end-games: Jeffery X. looks bound to win his against Alexander L. |
Mar-28-19 | | Gypsy: But this endgame has more interesting play. |
Mar-28-19
 | | offramp: <Gypsy>, Naka had a brief one as well. They are popular tonight. |
Mar-28-19 | | morfishine: 41.Rxe6 draw |
Mar-28-19
 | | offramp: Since we tuned in, <everything> seems to have gone right for Black. His rook is in a great position. |
Mar-28-19 | | BOSTER: Black has the possibility to win with a and h pawns moving simultaneously, when white king is cut from g file. |
Mar-28-19 | | Gypsy: And Alexander L. now seems to be holding his fortress against Jeffery X. May be, all games drawn in this round. |
Mar-28-19 | | Gypsy: Well, <41.Rxe6+ Kxd7 42.Rxh6...> equalizes the material, but Black is clearly better. |
Mar-28-19 | | Gypsy: (Jeffery's fortress has held ... 1/2 there.) |
Mar-28-19
 | | An Englishman: Good Afternoon: Thanks for the second game, CG--now I have a chance to fulfill my daily quota of mistaken posts. |
Mar-28-19 | | whiteshark: All rook endings are drawn...
unless proven otherwise. |
Mar-28-19
 | | offramp: If he wants to win Black willhave to give up his h-pawn. That would allow his king to advance. |
Mar-28-19 | | BOSTER: Black king is too fast to take white pawn. |
Mar-28-19
 | | Felipe38: It looks like some commentators here don't know very well the strong player Leinier Dominguez from Cuba. He was the first chess board for several years in his country. I will bet that he will finish the first third place in this tournament for sure. |

Mar-28-19 | | Kirth Gersen: 45...Kb7!! I don't know if it deserves the exclams but it looks amazing. The point is to deny the White rook access to a6 but the fact that such a R-P ending maven as Gypsy didn't see this winning resource coming seems to confirm my notion that it's a real star move by ledope. |

Mar-28-19 | | Gypsy: <Kirth Gersen: 45...Kb7!! I don't know if it deserves the exclams but it looks amazing.> It is by far the strongest move on the board at that point of time. The point of it is that it stops White rook from getting behind the passed a-pawn. (I did not see it because I was off watching my son's soccer game :-)) White cause is by then lost.
It seems to me that White played the first dud when he played <38.a3?>. Had he continued, for instance, <38.Rxb5 Rxd6 39.Rb4 a3 40.Rb3 Ra6 41.f4...> click for larger viewthe draw is rather clear.
The <38.a3?> made White situation difficult, but probably not completely lost. If I should chose the second dud, I would blame the entire forcing sequence <40.d7? Ke7 41.Rxe6+ Kxd7 42.Rxh6 Rc5(!)> click for larger viewThe numbers are temporarily even, but Black now has better pawns, rook, and king. I think the game is decided. Excellent endgame by LDP! |

Mar-29-19 | | Ulhumbrus: 32 Bxe6 heads for an ending. Indtead of this 32 Rc1 threatens Rg1 and f4. |
