Black used a h-pawn fishin' pole attack to set up a pretty Queen decoy sacrifice and discovered check for Greco's Mate pattern: 16...Qh2+ 17.KxQh2 Bf2+ 18.Bh6 RxBh6#!

Unfortunately, 16.Bf4 ruined it all. The attacker must have all the answers (or a blunder response) to all possibilities, while the defender only need to find one accurate line of play.

<fredthebear> heh yes the fish pole (a favorite weapon of User: kingscrusher) did not produce the "catch of the day" on this day.

perfidious: Far as 'catch of the day' went in this tilt, as Amarillo Slim was wont to say, sometimes the lambs slaughter the butcher.

<perfidious> I had no idea they fished for lambs in Kentucky.

On an only slightly more relevant topic, is there any truth to the rumor I've been spreading on Reddit that you are in fact the <"messin' round gentleman from Kentucky"> immortalized in a (superb) James Thurber short story?

Thurber was an Ohioite and this particular story also informed us that Columbus suffers from the horrifying feeling that Cleveland is sneaking up behind it.

If I remember correctly...

perfidious: <jess>, the times I've been to Kentucky, I never saw anyone fishing for lambs--maybe I simply don't get out enough!

Me, 'messin' round'? I never, ever do anything by halves; always go whole hogger, for better or worse.
