Kibitzer's Corner
Feb-15-20  spingo: Black played with great originality all the way through.
Feb-16-20  Smooth Operator: "Yip Yip Hooray"
Feb-16-20  fisayo123: Nice scalp
Feb-16-20  MordimerChess: So, 16 years old teenager just won in the game against actual World Champion. WOW! That's interesting achievement :)

Ju Wenjun got pretty good opening and she could get very strong position if she continue with 23. b4

if black responds with 23...c4 it gives the spot on d4 for knight or for bishop if needed 24. Ra5 Nc8 25. h5 g5 26. Nf1 Nb6 27. Bd4 Rc8 28. Ne3± If not, then it's still difficult for black 23...Qb6 24. Nf1 h5 25. Ng3 Nc8 26. Ne2 Bg4 27. Nf4±

Also 26. g3 with Ng2 plan would be better for white. But Ju played the knight to "fix" c4 hole.

And the most difficult to find for white 34. Re3 Bh6 35. f4 Bxe4 36. Qb1

- and if 36...Bxb1 37. Rxe7+ Kg8 38. Bxf6 Bf8 39. Rd7 Bf5⩱

- black could also sack the exchange but it would be worse 36...Rxb2 37. Qxb2 f5 38. Kh2 Bg7 39. Qc2 Bf8=

And the last move to mention Bxf4 could be played earlier, in the move 38...Bxf4, but the continuation would be nearly the same as in the game.

Enjoy! But this time "pause the video" moments are quite difficult ;)

Penguincw: Nice. Lowest rated player beats the highest rated player with black.
Oct-29-20  weisyschwarz: Wenjun Trouble
Oct-30-20  weisyschwarz: Okay, help me out! Why not 46...Qe5+ to end it sooner?
Nov-02-20  0ZeR0: Wow! What a game! Many thanks to <fredthebear> for pointing it out to me.

perfidious: The final step in that direction after the disastrous skein of four losses to open Yip's account at St Louis.
Oct-12-24  TheaN: This... is a fairly simple Saturday. <39....Bxf4 40.gxf4 Qxf4> Qxh4+! first is technically better, <41.Qb1> 41.Re1 is other attempt to break the pin, where 41....Qxh4+ 42.Kg2 Rxb2+ -+ wins <41....Rxb2 42.Qxb2 Qxe3 43.Qxf6 Qxe4+ 44.Kh2>:

Here's where it shows that 40....Qxh4+! is superior is this is quite tricky to convert as h6 is no longer a decent hiding spot for the king. SF gives <44....Qe2+ 45.Kh1 Qe8!> luring the queen away <46.Qxd6 Qe4+ 47.Kg1 Qg4+ 48.Kf1 Qxc4+> and picking up c4 with check is enough.

Oct-12-24  mel gibson: I saw the first few moves straight away.

Stockfish 17 says:

39. .. Bxf4

(39. .. Bxf4 (1. ... Bxf4 2.gxf4 Qxh4+ 3.Kg2 Qxf4 4.Re1 Qxc1 5.Rxc1 Rxb2+ 6.Kf3 Rb3+ 7.Kf4 Kg7 8.Re1 Rc3 9.Ra1 Ra3 10.Rh1 Kf7 11.e5 fxe5+ 12.Ke4 Kg7 13.Rh2 Rc3 14.Rf2 Rxc4+ ) +10.60/44 246)

score for Black +10.60 depth 44.

Oct-12-24  vajeer: I went with 39...g5 which seems to be equally strong too. I preferred that over Bxf4 line because that line leads to queen ending, and I was afraid of the risk of perpetual checks by White. 39...g5 line keeps other pieces on board and it appeared to give Black more active play.
Oct-12-24  Lambda: The position after 42... Qf4 is quite funny. Black threatens to pick up a piece due to the overloaded white queen, but the rook can surely move somewhere to make white's pieces safe. Nope, wherever it moves, there's a tactic, Rd3 Qxe4+, Re1 Qh4+ renews the overloading, Re2 pins the bishop, and on Rb3 or Rh3 we exchange on c1 and play Ra1 and the bishop cannot be defended.

chrisowen: I craw its q dug its ve its Bxf4 ace its me its cc imbibe its aae its key its ao its Bxf4 cuff!
Oct-12-24  alshatranji: I had a more intricate solution. Qh3+ 40. Kg1 Rxb2 41. Qxb2 Bxf4. Stockfish says it works at -3.19, which is not bad, but not like the variation that was played, which has -17.26! The win after this variation is also slower and more difficult. Stockfish has 42. Rf3 Be5 43. Qg2 Qg4 44. Rd3 g4, etc.
Oct-13-24  FM David H. Levin: <<weisyschwarz>: Okay, help me out! Why not 46...Qe5+ to end it sooner?>

After 46...Qe5+ 47. Qxe5 dxe5 48. d6 b3 49. d7 b2 50. d8=Q b1=Q 51. Qe7+ Kh6 52. Qxc5,

I'm not sure that it's easier for Black to win than in the game continuation.
