Aug-01-20  MordimerChess: Sasha Grischuk said it was a masterclass of how not to play against Magnus but come on, using WC opening ideas against himself is quite well-known idea... especially for the savage attack Peter got here. If he just continues with:

17.h4!

17...Qxh4?? loses because of 18.Nf5, then:
18...Qd8 19. Nh6+ Kf8 20. Rxf7#
18...Qh3 19. Rf3 Qxg4+ 20. Rg3+−
18...Qg5 19. Bc1 Qg6 20. e5 Nxe5 21. Nh6+ Kg7 22. Bxg6+− 17...Qe3+ leads to Qc5+ because 18. Kh2 Ne5 19. Nf5 and queen has to retreat, taking on d3 leads to checkmate on f7 I showed in the line above.

So the only option for black is: 17...Qc5+ 18. Kh1 Ne5 (blocking diagonal) 19. Nf5! with very strong attack

Aug-02-20  Ulhumbrus: What makes 17 h4!! not obvious is that White prepares to switch the attack made by his queen's bishop on the long diagonal to the diagonal c1-h6 by the move Bc1!

In other words keeping the bishop on the long diagonal does not have to be the way to use the bishop and the way to make use of it can be - depending on Black's choices - to switch it to the diagonal c1-h6 so as to make its contribution to an attack there, in this case supporting the move Nh6+ which removes an obstruction from the b1-h7 diagonal leading to Black's queen on g6.

This way to use a bishop on the long diagonal seems useful to know about.

Although Kasparov and Polgar appeared to find this quickly it suggests that 15...g5? is an error but that it takes inspired play to refute it.
