  offramp: Alireza Firouzja played very well in this rapid game against the rapid WC and he would have won if he had checked out the kibitzing at Bird vs J Mason, 1876 (kibitz #2) <<fredthebear:> The student must know the rule: "Two connected passed pawns on the sixth rank are stronger than a rook.">

Behold, there was a stonking, knockout win available:

Carlsen played 51...Rdf7.
Now 52.Qxf7! would have won pretty easily and prettily.

Firouzja's positional play gained him some superb middle game positions. such as this one:

Where he played 39.Qb2. (39.Qc4 looks stronger.)
But it was tactics that won the game.
