Stonehenge: The Sydney Mail and New South Wales Advertiser, 15 May 1897, where I found this game:

<The following is one of the games played in a recent exhibition of blindfold chess by Mr. Blackburne.>

No venue is given.

MissScarlett: This must be his blindfold display at Hanley on January 16th 1897.

The <Staffordshire Advertiser> of January 23rd, p.5, reports a pair of exhibitions given by Blackburne in Hanley on the 15th and 16th - Friday saw 34 games (+27 -1 =6), the sole defeat being to <C. W. Wilkins>, and Saturday was the blindfold display on 8 boards (+4 =4).

The blindfold game with Wilkins is described: <At the second board an exciting finish was witnessed. Each player averted several imminent threats of check-mate, until finally Blackburne executed a brilliant combination and produced by a succession of forced moves the desired result in his favour.>

That's close enough!

MissScarlett: <Edward Winter> will be furious.
Nov-04-20  Nosnibor: These two events in Hanley are not mentioned in Harding`s biography of Blackburne. No doubt more gems will appear out of the woodwork in the future.
