al wazir: What was wrong with 24. Qxc6 Bxc6 ?

After 25. fxe3 Ne5 (25...Re5 26. Bxc6 Nf8) 26. Bxd5 exd5 27. Rc5 Kf8 28. e4 f6 29. exd5, white is only a ♙ down.

Nov-25-20  Atking: <al wazir> I don't understand what do you want to say. In your line 27...f6 first Black is B+N vs R. Did I miss a subtilty?

No, I think 27...Kf8 is a bad move. The black ♔ goes to d6 eventually, but the immediate 27...f6 gets black out of trouble.

HeMateMe: I wonder about white giving up a pawn in this opening. What does white do with his somewhat weak hanging pawn, after opening up the center? This seemed to be horribly played.

Breunor: Computer has 24 Qxc6 as best, but it is still ranked at -2.1.

Game in Soltis’ column today. Soltis said white may be able to draw with 19 b4. He said white tried to get initiative with the pawn sack but Carlsen held it off.
