DAVID ANTON GUIJARRO

Anton became a FIDE Master in 2009 and an IM in 2012. In 2013 he was awarded the Grandmaster title and in 2014 he came 2nd in the European Championship (2014) with 8/11 behind Alexander Motylev, qualifying for the World Cup (2015), from which he was eliminated when he lost his first round match to Romanian-German GM Liviu-Dieter Nisipeanu.

In 2015 he tied for second place in the European Blitz Championship. In the same year Anton Guijarro also won the Spanish Blitz Championship, held in Sabiote, finishing ahead of Spain's first ranking grandmaster, Francisco Vallejo Pons. In June 2016, he took part in the 29th Magistral Ciudad de Leon tournament with Jaime Santos Latasa, Viswanathan Anand and Wei Yi. In October David won the Magistral d'Escacs Ciutat de Barcelona round-robin tournament (ca) on tiebreak over Jan-Krzysztof Duda.

Being the sole leader after 9 rounds, beating Veselin Topalov and Boris Gelfand,the grandmaster took the second place after a three-way tiebreak against Yu Yangyi and Hikaru Nakamura at the 2017 Tradewise Gibraltar Masters open tournament. He tied 3rd to 11th place in the 2019 European Individual Championship with Kacper Piorun, Ferenc Berkes, Niclas Huschenbeth, Sergei Movsesian, Liviu-Dieter Nisipeanu, Grigoriy Oparin, Maxim Rodshtein, and Eltaj Safarli. In January 2020 he won the Tata Steel Challengers tournament, qualifying for the 2021 Masters Tournament.

  Penguincw: Congrats to David Anton Guijarro for his performance at the Aeroflot Open (2015). He entered as the 28th seed, but finished in a 6-way tie for 4th (6th after tiebreaks) with 6/9. He was +3,-0,=6. He defeated Mamedyarov with black, but he wasn't done yet, as he also beat 3rd seed Rapport with white.

Thanks to his 2718 TPR, he gained 12.5 rating points to move from 2614 to 2627.
