Sally Simpson: A good game this one. I recently transposed just under 2,000 games from Aitken score books into PGN. He sometimes added comments. After this one added. 'One of my best games.'

It was then I noticed a strange coincidence. The date. 30th June 1951, It was played on the very day I was born.

  Sally Simpson: Hi Miss Scarlett,

Not too much I'm afraid. Apparently an amalgamation between Ludgate Circus and the Spread Eagle chess club - this link

John Saunders: I just happened upon some information about this whilst looking for something else. As mentioned above, Ludgate Circus and Spread Eagle were two separate London-based chess clubs. Ludgate Circus CC was founded in 1878. There are quite a lot of references to both clubs in online newspaper archives in the 1890s. They seem to have amalgamated to become Lud-Eagle CC in 1900 (the reference is St James's Gazette - Wednesday 24 October 1900 - p.6).

I'm not quite sure when the club ceased to exist - they were still playing in the London League in 1952/53 but had disappeared (or been renamed?) by 1955/56.
