perfidious: A simple matter of making sure the obvious 22.Nxf7 Kxf7 23.Qg6+ Ke7 works: tough to answer 24.dxc5, when Bd6+ followed by Qf7+ and Rad1 (+) loom.

fredthebear: 22.? is the bonus puzzle of the day.

However, just before that was the blunder 18...c5? After 19.Nxd5 threatening the Black queen, the seemingly obvious defense 19...NxNd5?? is a mate-in-two for White that is easy to overlook. See diagram:

White has mate-in-two after 19...NxNd5??:

Solution: 20.Bh7+ Kh8 21.Nxf7# 1-0.

Thus, 19...Qd8 was played in the actual game.

Dec-19-23  thegoodanarchist: The rook on c1 is fortuitously placed.
Dec-19-23  mel gibson: The first few moves played themselves and Black is toast after that.

Stockfish 16 says:

22. Nxf7

(22. Nxf7 (1.Nxf7 Kxf7 2.Qg6+ Ke7 3.dxc5 b4 4.Bg8 Qd3 5.Qf7+ Kd8 6.Qxf6+ Re7 7.Rd1 Raa7 8.Bxe6 Bg7 9.Qg6 Rad7 10.Bxd7 Qxg6 11.Bf5+ Rd7 12.Rxd7+ Ke8 13.Bxg6+ Kxd7 14.axb4 Bc8 15.Rxa5 Ke6 16.c6 Ke7 17.b5 Bxb2 18.b6 Kf6 19.Be4 Bc3 20.Ra8 Bf5 21.Bxf5 Kxf5 22.b7 Ke4 23.c7 Bg7 24.Ra6 Bc3 25.Rxh6 Kd3 26.h4 Be1 27.h5 Kc4 28.c8Q+ Kd3 29.Qf5+ Kd2 30.b8Q) +19.60/39 2393)

score for White +19.60 depth 39.

Dec-20-23  Mayankk: While 22 Nxf7 Kxf7 23 Qg6+ Ke7 24 dxc5 is a much cleaner win, one can argue that the more humble 22 Nxf7 Kxf7 23 Bg6+ Ke7 24 Bxe8 Qxe8 25 dxc5 should also suffice for White although the win may take much longer.

White is up R + 3P vs B + N and while in ordinary times this may not count much, in this position it seems enough. Black King is out in the open and White can continue to torment it and pick more pawns or pieces. Black doesn't have much scope to counterattack against a well guarded White King and once White gets b4 in and puts its Rooks on the open d file, it's position looks pretty solid.

Dec-20-23  saturn2: After the first two moves I continued with 24.Bh4
