  beatgiant: <Straclonoor> It seems Black miscounted the tempi. The path Kf8-g8-h7-g6-g5 takes 5 moves, while Kd7-e6-f5-g5 takes only 4 moves.

For this reason, 51...Kf8? is a blunder and only draws, whereas by 51...b5 52. Kd5 <Kd7> Black's king would have reached the kingside a move faster and won as in the lines you posted.

This is not visually obvious, because ...Kf8 looks more in the right direction than ...Kd7. This makes it a great lesson for us all.
