Aug-06-24  cehertan: Round about move 34 I was feeling very proud of my position until I had a tactical slip in mutual time pressure. Stockfish rates it equal at that stage. His world ranking was pretty high at that time. Glek published the game in the informant.

OhioChessFan: The Knight move seemed to jump from the adjacent board. I'm guessing you thought in time pressure removing the Knight's defender was safe. 37...Rd2 and all is well.

Sally Simpson: Actually it is quite a neat cool headed trap to set in time trouble. Here.

The immediate 37.Rxb7+ does not quite work because Black can play 37...Ka8.

Black is threatening Rd1+ and Qxc2. So White played 37.Qf2 covering c2 and disguising the fact the Rook when taking on b7 had to be captured else it is mate with Qa7.

Good game to skip through - spotted another trap (it's my forte. ) This tine for Black.

31..Qf7! and if 32.Nxd6 Qxb3 stops the White mate threat on b7 and threatens a Black mate with Rd1. So 33.cxb3 bxa6. Into an ending with Black the exchange up.

Nov-28-24  cehertan: Sally Simpson, I feel like I would see that in a heartbeat today but I have probably just forgotten how hard it is in the heat of battle. Glek did not mention that in the informant but it vindicates my gut feeling that I was better in that game. I had recently written an article in New In Chess on the Caro Kann Pomar Variation, the first thing I wrote for NIC. Glek had not seen the article but avoided the line I analyzed.
